Cascades Containerboard Packaging, a division of Cascades Canada ULC, owns six containerboard mills and nineteen corrugated products plants in the United States and Canada. Cascades Containerboard Packaging is the largest containerboard producer in Canada and is also a major Canadian manufacturer of corrugated products.




Your challenge!


Our manufacturing plant in Newtown, CT hopes to find a qualified and cost-conscious professional to fill the open position of Production Management Trainee. The successful candidate will be responsible for learning all safety, production, management, and supervision operations.¬ We're looking for a creative thinker who doesn't mind sharing their¬ ideas and implementing new strategies to benefit the business.¬ If you're a hard worker with excellent managerial skills and superior time management skills, we want to talk to you. Job Responsibilities



  • Institute a culture of safety and lead safety efforts for all employees by identifying high-risk situations, conducting safety meetings, and coordinating worker safety activities

  • Keep open communication with all Team Members regarding safety issues

  • Administer and support all safety practices and policies in compliance with Federal, State and Local Law including but not limited to: safety and OSHA reporting

  • Lead quality efforts by coaching employees on quality processes and training knowledge of ISO standard processes a plus

  • Be a key stakeholder in developing and implementing operational excellence throughout the manufacturing process

  • Help develop and roll out an operational strategy in line with his sector's business strategy



Operational Excellence



  • Effectively manage human and material resources to ensure sound financial performance and the achievement of manufacturing efficiency targets

  • Maximize production efficiency and optimize the resources under his responsibility

  • Maximize synergy and foster collaboration among Cascades' groups, units and business units

  • Maximize the return on assets under his responsibility

  • Make sure operational efficiency targets are met

  • Ensure compliance with standardized manufacturing practices and procedures to deliver on the sector's objectives

  • Support the sector's continuous improvement initiatives



Human Resources



  • Build a team of competent and dedicated people whose skills complement one another

  • Ensure that the work flow and job structure are tailored to his sector's needs

  • Manage and engage his staff based on Cascades' values and business strategy

  • Implement the talent development and succession strategy in his sector in collaboration with Human Resources



Health & Safety



  • Accept the full responsibility that comes with his position in line with Cascades' OSH requirements

  • Help set OSH priorities for his sector in line with corporate objectives and follow up on them

  • Insist on and create a safe and healthy work environment for all employees in his sector

  • Make sure governance rules are followed and responsibilities are carried out

  • Ensure the sustainable and responsible development of his sector

  • Help his unit achieve its innovation objectives

  • Participate in technical support for clients



Additional responsibilities



  • Train as a Production Supervisor to lead and motivate as many as 45-50 people in a progressive production environment

  • Optimize efficiencies and drive efforts to reduce waste and downtime, and increase production availability

  • Provide internal customer service to various departments and employees

  • Special projects and assignments as business dictates

Education


Bachelor's degree in Operations Management or Other relevant fields



Desired experience



  • Previous experience in a safety-minded manufacturing setting, managerial experience preferred or equivalent management experience

  • Knowledge of State and Federal laws, rules and regulations pertaining to safety

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office; Word, Excel, Outlook and Power Point

  • Strong organizational, prioritizing, and multitasking skills

  • Proven ability to make good decisions in a fast-moving environment

Technical competencies



  • Knowledge in Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma a plus



Additional information



  • Willingness to travel for training and short-term assignments at other US facilities

  • Want and desire to be challenged through new equipment, existing equipment modification, or process changes
